The passing of A hero for our times

John Glenn, American astronaut, 1921-2016
John Glenn was an icon of my childhood, and of a nation eager to launch itself into the Space Age. His passing today, not very long after President Obama promised that we will send Americans to Mars in the relatively near future, is a poignant reminder of how much we owe to these early space pioneers. Who are your favorite heroes, and why?

One person who I look up to is Thomas Edison. He invented a very important thing that is used world wide; the light bulb. Not only was his inventions impressive, his persistence was spectacular. He never gave up on the light bulb and I always try to be as persistent as possible.

Marie Curie is a person that I look up to. She really inspires me to become a great scientist, some day in the future. Curie was very successful in what she did, she and her husband even earned two Nobel prizes. One in Chemistry, that recognized her for her work in radioactivity. The other one was half for Physics and half for their study of spontaneous radiation that was discovered by Becquerel. The world of sciences has benefited from her works, and I hope for the same for myself one day.
