This article made me think about how many animals I've had in my life, and how many times I do watch them intently, both in the "wild" and elsewhere. Read the article, and leave a thoughtful comment, and you may earn yourself some extra credit points for sharing your thoughts on this.

I thought this article was enlightening. I use to believe that we watched animals and enjoyed it, simply for recreation. We find pleasure in it, but what we don't know is that we are, in a way, watching ourselves. "...into the world of the animal being watched, losing yourself while expanding – however briefly – into another’s life, resonant of your own, while also ineffably different." (Barash). Barash does a very good job of explaining how we can relate to animals and how we learn from them by providing the us with various examples in text and backed-up statements. The article is long, but worth reading. It reminded me of being a child as well. I pictured myself at a zoo watching giraffes. I could never think how they could relate to human kind besides the obvious reasons. But when I think about it, all species are alike. We all have feelings, we all have ways of communication, we all have a necessity for the same things to live. But why are we the advanced ones? Why aren't there giraffes watching us in cages? I believe these are questions that cannot ever be fully answered, for the are to stressing to wrap ones head around. Who knows? Maybe David P Barash may come out with another inspiring article to explain to the masses about this frequently asked question, and I hope he does.
