He leaves us with some ideas to contemplate and consider.
Jay Shetty, self-proclaimed motivational philosopher, made this video, in which he says, (see the text)...

Being such an advanced society, it is eye opening to me to think that even with all these amazing accomplishments, we are stepping backwards. The ability to have a face to face conversation with someone is difficult for many teens and grownups alike. I think that if the use of technology went down people would be able to think clearer and be able to do everyday, and monumental, tasks much easier. People need to start changing the way they think because we can't fix today's problems with old thoughts.

The modern world, today is so technologically advanced, yet we cannot seem to execute simple social tasks. There have been many accomplishments when it comes to sustainable systems, stronger structures, and higher quality technology. One must admit, all of these things are amazing. But on the other hand, we can't seem to have a face to face conversation with somebody. Instead of adding onto the good qualities of life, we replace these abilities with technology that could potentially do this for us. Our social skills are being diminished by our newfound technology and the societal norms that are replacing our regular ways of life.

I find this so captivating to watch and listen to. Every time I rewatch this video, something new catches my attention. So often we are involved with our technology that we don't notice the people around us that matter the most. Shetty says that we have been to the moon but still have difficulty striking up a conversation with a stranger, which I think has to do with social norms. We are so scared of the worst possible thing happening that we don't even try. Trying and failing is so much better than just never trying at all, and that is the biggest message I took from Jay Shetty's video when I watched it tonight.

I really believe that this concept of stepping backwards as a race even while our technology and medicine advance is mind-blowing. After watching a few of Jay Shetty's other videos I found that his main topic or subject is change. Change of character, change of mindset, change of the way we communicate with others were all changes that he seemed to think were the keys to improving our happiness and success in the world. I had never thought that such simple changes could result in such dramatic changes in our lives. This video, as well as all of his others, were truly eye-opening to the state of our planet and how "poor" our society has become.

As the first time I watched this video, I was astonished. It made me realize that people would much rather prefer to talk to someone over text rather than actually talking with someone in person, even if they're in the same room as them. Technology is slowly but steadily taking over our lives and how we interact with others daily. I agree when Jay Shetty said that we can become closer to people who are far away, but we can also become distant to people who are nearby. We are afraid to talk to people face to face because we are so used to hiding behind a screen to talk to them. If eventually society is enveloped in this huge fear of talking to others in person, would schools and/or jobs be impacted? Shetty's video has opened my eyes to see that as amazing as technology is, it could also result in a broken society.
