The photographs that John Mentz took shortly after the earthquake in San Francisco, in 1906, are a great addition to our history. His work is amazing and gives a perfect way to remember the travesty that struck California that year. They are beautiful pictures and represent the awful earthquake in a strangely beautiful way. It is amazing what a person can do with a camera. He took more than 100,000 and it is wonderful people can now go back to develop these photos and get a sense of the time, from a person living during the times.

This article and the photographs that John Mentz took really give people a look at how far we have come from tragedy. The pictures of the destruction in San Francisco compared to now really show how a city can rebuild beautifully. Also, the article shows how far technology has come. From carrying around loads of equipment to pulling something out of your pocket really shows how much we have changed for the better. The process of taking a single picture then also gives these picture a past and a look into what the photographer had to do. The surplus of outstanding picture helps children and adults now appreciate what is standing in San Francisco today.
